PROTECTING FUNERAL HOME / MORTUARY PERSONNEL
FROM POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS INFECTIOUS MATERIALS

Protective Medical gloves are a
must for use in the prep rooms of Funeral homes, Mortuary, or
Coroners office. Pathologists, Morticians and any personnel who
perform post-mortem care and are exposed to blood, body fluids, or
other infectious material should wear disposable Medical Gloves.
Contact with whole or part human remains carries potential risks
associated with pathogenic microbiolgical organisims that may be
present in blood or tissue. Routine infection control practices
should be incorporated into everyday funeral home service care.
The protection offered by disposable Medical
exam gloves, referred to as its barrier effectiveness, is the
ability of the gloves to withstand viral penetration. Medical exam
gloves that pass Viral Penetration Tests (ASTM1671D) provide an
effective barrier against bloodborne pathogens, as mandated by the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (510-K Certified), the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH).

SELECTION
It is also important to select the proper type
of disposable Medical exam gloves for each type of use. While all
SafeCare-Gloves / UniSeal® Medical exam gloves pass
Viral Penetration Tests (ASTM1671D), Medical exam gloves only
maintain effective barrier protection as long as they are intact.
Latex Medical exam gloves and Nitrile Medical exam gloves have
tensile strengths typically in the range of 17 to 28 MPa and are
recommended in applications where gloves are worn for a longer
period of time or exposed to greater stress and risks. The thicker
the glove material the greater the resistance to chemicals or
mechanical damage.
Nitrile Medical exam gloves also have chemical
barrier properties that give them an extra advantage when handling
certain drugs or chemicals
