Since the Second World War, surgeons
have used Latex Gloves to protect themselves and their patients
from infections and contamination. Why? Because latex gloves resist
tears, are highly elastic, and gives the wearer superb tactile
sensitivity. With their outstanding barrier properties, latex
gloves are excellent for protecting both healthcare workers and
patients.
Medical Latex Gloves allow healthcare workers to
provide care for infectious patients while protecting their own
health. The use of latex exam gloves can also inhibit the spread of
dangerous pathogens within the healthcare setting, thus enhancing
the safety of everyone. The Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) dictates that Medical exam gloves should be
worn whenever users anticipate coming in contact with blood borne
pathogens (blood, urine, saliva, etc.), or other potentially
infectious materials; mucous membranes; non-intact skin; and when
handling or touching contaminated items or surfaces.
LATEX GLOVES (natural rubber)
- Good for biohazard protection (infection
risks)
- Good for inorganic chemicals
- Poor for organic solvents
- Avoid: Oils, grease and hydrocarbon
derivatives
- Can cause or trigger latex allergies.

food handling, processing and preparations. These gloves are safe
for preparing, washing and processing meat, poultry, seafood,
vegetables, desserts, beverages, etc. in all USDA inspected

Medical grade exam gloves include
latex examination gloves and non-latex
synthetic exam gloves such as Nitrile gloves and Vinyl gloves.
These disposable exam gloves are regulated by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA). FDA makes sure that manufacturers of these
devices meet performance criteria such as leak resistance, tear
resistance, etc.
The protection offered by a disposable
Medical grade exam glove, referred to as its barrier effectiveness,
is the ability of the exam glove to withstand viral penetration.
Gloves that pass Viral Penetration Tests (ASTM1671D) provide an
effective barrier against bloodborne pathogens, as mandated by the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH).
DON'T BE FOOLD
- BY B GRADE GLOVES
Also known as off-line gloves or
industrial grade gloves. They are not medical
grade. These are either made to not meet medical gloves standards
in the first place, or they fail in pinhole rates or specifications
in quality control, and are downgraded from medical grade to B
grade. These gloves are usually labeled as disposable gloves and
cannot be labeled as exam gloves, and do
not provide barrier protection against Hazardous
Materials, Toxic Chemicals, Biological Risks (known and unknown)
and other pathogens.
