PROTECTING LABORATORY
WORKERS
FROM HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
RISKS
Laboratory Gloves: Disposable Laboratory Gloves are the first-line of defense and protection for Laboratory workers for activities involving potentially infectious materials, hazardous chemicals, and biological material, or when hands may come in contact with contaminated surfaces, equipment, or accidental spills.
With so many biological risks out there - known
and unknown - it only makes sense to increase the protection of
Laboratory workers with the best disposable Laboratory gloves
available.
Awareness of occupational exposure and proper prevention is key to staying healthy on the job.

PROPER PROTECTION
OSHA states "Employees exposed to safety and health hazards should wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Laboratory Gloves, to be protected from exposure to those hazards," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA.
The protection offered by disposable Laboratory gloves, referred to as its barrier effectiveness, is the ability of the Laboratory gloves to withstand viral penetration. Disposable Laboratory Gloves that pass Viral Penetration Tests (ASTM1671D) provide an effective barrier against bloodborne pathogens, and other infectious materials and chemicals as mandated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
GLOVE SELECTION
It is also important to select the proper type of disposable Laboratory Gloves for each type of Lab task. While all UniSeal(R) Laboratory Gloves pass Viral Penetration Tests (ASTM1671D), the Laboratory gloves only maintain effective barrier protection as long as they are intact. Latex Laboratory Gloves and Nitrile Laboratory Gloves have tensile strengths typically in the range of 17 to 28 MPa and are recommended in applications where laboratory gloves are worn for a longer period of time or exposed to greater stress and risks. The thicker the Laboratory glove material the greater the resistance to chemicals or mechanical damage.
Nitrile Laboratory Gloves also have additional chemical barrier properties that give them an advantage when handling certain hazardous materials or chemicals.
MEDICAL GRADE
GLOVES:
UniSeal® Laboratory Gloves are manufactured in
accordance with FDA specifications, U.S. Department of
Agriculture's (USDA) guidelines, and the Federal Food, Drug and
Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) for food handling, processing and
preparations. These Laboratory Gloves are safe in all USDA, and Animal and
Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) inspected
establishments
Medical grade exam laboratory gloves include latex
laboratory gloves and non-latex synthetic laboratory gloves such as
Nitrile laboratory gloves and Vinyl laboratory gloves. These disposable laboratory gloves are
regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA makes sure
that manufacturers of these devices meet performance criteria such
as leak resistance, tear resistance, etc.
